Multiblast were engaged by Watpac Constructions to carry out the concrete honing & sealing to the pool surround of the brand-new Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, at Griffith University. Featuring an Olympic size swimming pool, the entire 1,600 sq.m surrounding concourse was honed to fully expose a multitude of coloured stones – Hanson ImageCrete Colorado.

Being a pool surround and a high traffic ‘wet’ area, safety was of utmost importance. The slip-resistance achieved will ensure the safety of all pool-goers, whilst the ‘wet-look’ penetrating sealer has given the concrete finish vibrant colour and depth, whilst offering great protecting from staining.

Multiblast were required to overcome numerous challenges to provide the quality finish that such a project deserved. Battling the extreme outdoor weather conditions of one of the hottest summers on record, our experienced team powered through to get the job completed on time. We have since received the praise of Watpac, Griffith University and the Brisbane City Council, who are all extremely satisfied with the finish provided by Multiblast.

Multiblast Industrial Flooring are proud to have been involved with the construction of a number of Bunnings Warehouse stores around Australia. Multiblast has been responsible for finishing the floors in a large number of new stores, and has also been widely involved in the concrete repair and rectification in order to revamp a number of existing and older stores.

On a ‘new build’ Bunnings Warehouse store, Multiblast are generally handed over a freshly poured concrete slab directly after the concreting contractor has completed the placement procedure. The application of the specified concrete densifier / hardener, Ashford Formula, is carried out as per the manufacturer recommendations, and followed by either a surface chemical curing agent or curing blanket. This aid in curing greatly helps in the retention of moisture in the concrete surface, reducing the likelihood of shrinkage and surface cracking.

Once the concrete is fully cured, Multiblast then return to the site to commence the extensive polishing process. This involves again the use of chemical densifiers, such as Retroplate, as well as a staged diamond polishing and buffing process designed to achieve a high gloss, mirror-like finish to the concrete floor. This system provides a finish that is extremely hard-wearing and lasting.

Every step is crucial to achieve a floor finish such as this – from the formwork right through to the final buff and burnish. Multiblast are extremely experienced in carrying out these works, and have completed a number of successful projects throughout Australia. From the outset of the announcement by Woolworths Limited that Master Home Improvement stores would be built around Australia, Multiblast Industrial Flooring have been involved with the polished concrete and epoxy flooring during the construction process of a number of Masters stores.

With a very similar flooring specification to that of the Bunning’s Warehouse stores, our previous experience and reliability in project timelines led to the Masters development team continuing to use our services consistently after completing our first store in Rockhampton in 2012. To date Multiblast have completed the polishing works for over seven stores throughout Qld and NSW. With a solid working relationship with both Masters and many of the head building contractors involved in building future Masters stores, we look forward to providing our high quality service and expertise wherever necessary.

Multiblast were engaged by Watpac Construction Ltd to carry out the installation of all the Epoxy Flooring, and Polished Concrete works required in the new ‘state of the art’ Advanced Engineering Building’ at the University of Queensland’s St. Lucia campus.

Working closely with the principal builder, the Multiblast team was contracted to deliver the flooring solutions for the innovative structure, consisting of over 6,000 sq.m of epoxy flooring, and over 2,000 sq.m of polished concrete. The unique multi-purpose building was set to revolutionise learning and research, offering educational facilities for structural, civil, materials and hydraulics engineering students across eight stories. In keeping with the Green Star design, we applied HYCHEM WE500, an innovative water-based epoxy flooring system. The pigmented, 4mm self-leveling coating has a ‘matt’ finish, is very low odor and very low VOC (volatile organic compound).

Work commenced on the high-profile project in mid-September, 2012, and Multiblast completed all works within Watpac’s scheduled time-frame, closing out contract works in early 2013.

The Gold Coast City Council engaged us to carry out the honed concrete works for the new Macintosh Island pedestrian bridge. The walkway surface for the Gold Coast bridge was honed back to expose full stone/aggregate, and finished at an 60/80 grit, before a concrete sealer/densifier was applied.

The honed concrete provided a very attractive looking concrete finishing, and also provides a safe slip resistant surface. As the walkway is a high pedestrian traffic area and is open and exposed to the weather, slip resistance was incredibly important. The penetrating sealer/densifier that was applied upon completion of the honing works will protect the surface from staining, and also helped to harden the surface of the concrete.
